Thank you for being part of the NewsHuddle community! This project is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We’ve built this platform to allow Canadians to share and discuss current news and trending conversations in a friendly, open environment. As we grow, we’d love your help improving NewsHuddle.

By contributing, you’ll help us:

  1. Cover our platform subscription fees

    • These are the essential costs that keep NewsHuddle running smoothly.  

  2. Implement new features 

    • Increased media storage to accommodate community growth.

    • Improved security enhancements to keep your data and discussions safe. 

    • Email notifications and weekly email digest so you never miss important updates or discussions.  

    • Member-to-member messaging for direct, private conversations.  

    • Development of new content spaces, including Resources and Media Literacy Education.

  3. Online tools to support our Moderators

    • It is necessary to ensure a safe, respectful environment for everyone.  

  4. Manage administration costs  

    • From day-to-day operational costs to behind-the-scenes service fees. 

  5. Give back to media literacy

    • Every year, a percentage of our surplus, if available, will be donated to Canadian Media Literacy organizations that help people of all ages navigate the changing media landscape.

  1. Year 1 (Feb 2025–Feb 2026):

    • $1,539.36 covers the platform subscription and other associated expenses, which includes a 20% backup fund.

    • 25 GB of storage. A rolling one month data deletion policy helps to manage drive space.

  2. Year 2 (Feb 2026–Feb 2027):

    • $3,078.72 is the minimum needed to extend operations another year under the same 25 GB storage limit and rolling 2-week deletion policy. This total includes the $1,539.36 investment needed to launch the project in year one. These funds would need to be raised by January 2026.

    • If we need 1 TB of storage for additional content storage capacity, another $1,700 per year (approx.) is required, bringing Year 2’s total to about $4,778.72.

  3. Year 3 (Feb 2027-Feb 2028):

    • We would expand and improve the online tools and resources for moderators to help them improve and streamline their work. Future budget calculations will outline these costs as we discover the necessary tools to moderate the community more efficiently.

These figures illustrate our baseline and potential upgrade costs for the next two years. They help show how the funds will cover the platform fees, ensure stability, and provide the capacity to keep NewsHuddle running smoothly for the community.

If we are to be optimistic about community growth, our target fundraising goal between now and January 2026 would be rounded up to $5000 CAD.

In the near term, all human labour will be volunteer work. Should the community expand rapidly and experience user and financial growth through signups and donations, we would consider incorporating NewsHuddle as a registered charity and paying key positions.
